  Faithless and Slovo guitarist Dave Randall has written of his support for the cultural boycott of Israel in the South African newspaper The New Age. Faithless announced in Israel that they had declined an offer to perform in Israel. He said:

Agrexco blockaded at Belgian airport On February 11, 2011, a group of Belgian peace activists blocked the entrance of the Israeli company Agrexco’s distribution centre at Liège Airport. The activists protested against the import of agricultural goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied territories.

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today condemned the decision of the European Commission which stated that “Israel provides an adequate level of protection of personal data”, thus giving the green light for “the transfer of personal data of EU citizens to Israel”[1]. The Irish Government had previously attempted to block this data-sharing relationship, but to no avail.

Tower Hamlets council in London has become the second UK local authority to pass a motion to exclude Veolia from local procurement contracts over its complicity with Israeli violations of international law. The motion, which was moved by councillor Harun Miah of the Respect Party, was passed at a full meeting of Tower Hamlets council on February 2.

In an important gain for the global movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel, Brazil’s largest Trade Union Confederation (CUT), voiced its support of the BDS call and called for the suspension of Israeli-Brazilian economic agreements and military ties on January 28. In a statement signed by National President of CUT as well as its General Secretary and International Relations Secretary, the union stated:

Five of Norway’s largest PR firms have said ‘no’ to offers to improve Israel’s global public relations campaign, reported the Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naæringsliv.Israel is attempting to widen its global public relations campaign by hiring foreign PR firm to improve its reputation abroad.

The orchestra’s performance is part of its annual national tour, which will be protested in other cities as well. The protests respond to the call from Palestinian civil society to boycott institutions that work to normalize the occupation of Palestinian territories and the oppression of Palestinians in Israel, the territories, and in exile.
