Montreal, January 2010: As the world remembers the Israeli bombardment of Gaza at the turn of 2009, the Palestine solidarity movement continues to build the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israeli apartheid. Social justice networks globally are moving in unprecedented ways to back the growing BDS campaign, launched in occupied Palestine by civil society organizations in 2005.

  The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) North-west have cancelled a planned demonstration that was to take place today (Wednesday Jan 26) outside Johnstons Court shopping centre in Sligo.

BDS France have issued a report following the recent trial of three BDS activists relating to demonstrations calling for a boycott of Israeli produce. French activists have been facing a state-sanctioned campaign of repression. Full report:

In the latest sign that BDS is penetrating the media mainstream, Reuters today published an article on the BDS movement. Ahava's goods, processed on stolen Palestinian land, are becoming too hot to handle. Leading British retail business John Lewis is now refusing to stock this toxic brand. Canadian retailer The Bay has also confirmed that it had also discontinued sales of Ahava products.

Former Israeli Foreign Affairs minister, Tzipi Livni, who was scheduled to be in South Africa this week, will not be coming to the country. While the SA Zionist Federation claims this is due to travel issues it is also as a result of the mounting pressure from human rights activists calling for her arrest. Livni was invited by the South African Zionist Federation to speak in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
