Historic defeat for Israel: ICJ rules that Israel is plausibly committing genocide

Historic legal defeat for Israel! The International Court of Justice (ICJ) rules that Israel is plausibly committing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip and orders Israel to stop any and all genocidal acts.

While the Court fell short of explicitly ordering an immediate and permanent ceasefire, states must now be pressured to fulfill their legal obligations to actually stop the genocide and impose a ceasefire. Third States must end their complicity and prevent genocide by, at the very least, ceasing arms transfers to Israel as well as all military funding and diplomatic cover for its genocidal aggression.

Welcoming this decisive legal defeat of Israel and the colonial West that has armed, funded and enabled its genocide, the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), the largest Palestinian coalition leading the global BDS movement, salutes South Africa for its moral leadership. We call for intensifying grassroots and civil society pressure through mass global mobilization and peaceful disruption of business-as-usual to hold states, corporations and institutions accountable for complicity in Israel’s 75-year-old regime of settler-colonialism, apartheid and military occupation. This is the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice and equality.
