Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.
A wave of major cities across the Spanish state have expressed strong support for Palestinian rights. They have all denounced President Donald Trump's decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and slammed Israel's latest massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. Many have called for an arms embargo on Israel and urged governments to ensure its implementation.
"Their Independence is our Nakba. The ethnic cleansing of 750,000 to one million indigenous Palestinians 70 years ago and turning them into refugees to establish a Jewish-majority state in Palestine is no cause for celebration. The Nakba is not a crime of the past, it is ongoing. We commemorate by asserting our right to return home and to live in freedom and dignity."
Prince William’s scheduled trip to Israel this summer would contravene seven decades of British policy against official visits to Israel by the royal family. Despite many invitations, the royal family has avoided visits to avoid giving a royal stamp of approval to Israel’s decades-old violations of Palestinian human rights. As Israel’s far-right government intensifies its violations of international law, this is no time to change this precedent. The UK should pressure Israel to end its violations of Palestinian rights and cancel Prince William's trip.
"Dublin has offered the strongest response to date to Israel’s latest massacre against unarmed Palestinian protesters in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. This is the most impressive win yet for the BDS movement in 2018."
The BDS National Committee (BNC) supports calls for an independent, international investigation and is calling for effective accountability measures against Israel, particularly a two-way military embargo.
