GLOBAL - Activists in the US, Latin America, Australia, and Europe organized over 35 events as part of the international Anti-Chevron Day on May 21 to protest Chevron’s role in supplying energy and millions of dollars in taxes to Israel as it commits genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza—violence that Israel has rapidly intensified with a full-scale invasion and forced starvation campaign.
Anti-Chevron Day is an international day of action held since 2014 to protest Chevron’s climate destruction and human rights violations, especially in the Amazon basin in Latin America. The leading organization, Amazon Watch, has integrated the Palestinian Boycott Chevron campaign into Anti-Chevron Day.
HIGHLIGHTS:
DENVER, CO: activists with Sunrise Movement, 350, the Democratic Socialists of America, and other allies asked the Denver marathon to drop Chevron as a sponsor.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA: The Santa Clara County Sustainability Commission Unanimously Recommended divestment from Chevron, the first step towards divestment by the county.
ECUADOR: Organizers with UDAPT - Union of People Affected by Chevron-Texaco - led a rally to demand justice in the Chevron case in Ecuador, highlighting Chevron’s complicity in human rights violations globally.
AUSTRALIA: Organizers in Australia had a Boycott Caltex national day of action, with actions around the country at Caltex stations. The Caltex brand is owned by Chevron.
BAY AREA, CA: Activists dropped banners at strategic locations across the Bay Area, and kayakers displayed Palestinian flags and a banner that read “Big Oil = Death” as an oil tanker attempted to dock.
HAWAII: A coalition of organizations held actions at Texaco and Chevron stations coordinated across Hawaii.
- Dozens of other cities held gas station pickets, banner drops, and protests at strategic locations.
- SWITZERLAND: Days before the shareholder meeting, the Swiss National Bank announced it had divested its $712 million holdings in Chevron.
- GLOBAL: Dozens of influential figures, including renowned youth climate activist Greta Thunberg, made video statements supporting the Boycott Chevron campaign and encouraging others to participate in Anti Chevron Day. Videos and photos can be found on the Boycott Chevron Instagram page.

When we see the children of Gaza killed by Israel’s war machine, their homes burned, schools bombed, and families destroyed, all fueled and funded by gas corporations like Chevron–what kind of future do we have if we cannot stop this genocide today?” -Greta Thunberg, in a video statement in support of Anti Chevron Day.
