 Besieged Gaza, Occupied Palestine

5th April, 2011

 On 5th of April  at a seminar entitled "The Jewish National Fund: Its mandate,  its actions and the campaign to boycott it" the General Union for Youth Entities(GUYE) announced its endorsement of the  2005 BDS call and pledged to continue to encourage, support and participate in any events or actions that would build the BDS campaign against Israel.

 The BDS call has been endorsed by an overwhelming majority of Palestinian parties, organizations, trade unions and movements representing the Palestinian people in the 1967 and 1948 territories and in the Diaspora. GUYE joins the call by demanding that the international community boycott, divest from and impose sanctions against Israel until the 3 criteria for the BDS are met, namely:

a.       Israel ends its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and to dismantling the Separation Wall;

b.       Israeli recognition of the fundamental right of the Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and for

c.        Israeli respect, protection, and promotion of the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194

The Union acknowledges the huge gains made over the past 2 years in isolating Israel through BDS whereby on an economic, academic, political and cultural level the international boycott movement has begun to penetrate the Western mainstream. Most recently the University of Johannesburg in South Africa has announced the complete severing of its ties with the Israeli Ben Gurion University and BDS is now seen as an ‘existential threat’ by Israeli policy makers and think tanks; a threat to its policy of occupation, colonization and apartheid.

The Union has also joined the Palestinian Students Campaign for the Academic Boycott of Israel (PSCABI) who have carried out important work in Gaza to bolster the global BDS movement against Israel and educate the Palestinians in Gaza of this vital and growing tool of resistance which had previously helped end the similarly racist apartheid regime of South Africa.

 The Union will endeavor to make Boycotting Israel a priority in its interactions with the international movement to bring justice to Palestine and will encourage all other Palestinian youth associations and groups to do the same.
