BNC Statement of Solidarity with the Colombian people

The Palestinian BDS National Committee, the largest coalition of Palestinian civil society which leads the global BDS movement, expresses its deep solidarity with the Colombian people, our brothers and sisters who today are struggling against the brutality and repression of their far-right government, particularly given the deteriorating socio-economic conditions that have been exacerbated by the pandemic.

The Colombian regime has persistently violated basic human rights in Colombia, supported by U.S. imperialism and Israel’s apartheid regime, among others.

As Palestinians, we know all too well from decades of resisting Israel’s regime of military occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid, how state repression and brutal violence devastate lives and livelihoods. For a long time Israel and Colombia have been in a political, economical and military relationship. Israel’s regime has provided military and security support to the Colombian regime, while it maintained paramilitary groups, engaged in extrajudicial killings, repression of human rights defenders and much more.

Israel develops and tests its repressive military-security tactics and weaponry on the Palestinian people and then sells them as “field-tested” to far-right regimes, including Colombia. We reiterate the call for an end to all military and security ties between Colombia and Israel.

We stand firmly with you in your struggle for dignity, democracy as well as social and economic justice. We consider it necessary to build ties of solidarity among communities across the world that are resisting repression, displacement, military and police brutality, and all forms of racism and oppression. We believe that in international solidarity lies our hope.
