A quarter-century ago I barnstormed around the United States encouraging Americans, particularly students, to press for divestment from South Africa. Today, regrettably, the time has come for similar action to force an end to Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestinian territory and refusal to extend equal rights to Palestinian citizens who suffer from some 35 discriminatory laws.
I have reached this conclusion slowly and painfully.

Johannesburg’s international airport was put on red alert after its National Key Point status was activated this morning due to the expected arrival of a delegation from Israel.
This afternoon at a joint press conference held at the student center of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, national representatives of the South African Union of Students (SAUS), the South African Student Congress (SASCO) and the Young Communist League (YCL) slammed the pending trip of “Israeli Apartheid agents“ to South Africa.
The Israeli mission to South African campuses is expected to arrive on the 11th of August 2011.

political speech, the South African media watchdog, the Advertising
Standards Authority (ASA), unequivocally dismissed all complaints relating
to a radio advert on 5fm that called for the boycott of Israel and compared
