Urgent Action Alert from Cal Students for Justice in Palestine -- On 24 March 2010, UC Berkeley ASUC President Will Smelko vetoed ‘A Bill in Support of UC Divestment From War Crimes,.’   This bill called on the ASUC and the UC to divest funds from companies enabling war crimes in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, among other places, and which was passed by the student senate in a 16 to 4 vote one week ago.

Thank you so much to all of the people who joined us on Wednesday night to support the ASUC bill urging divestment from companies that directly fund Israel‘s illegal occupation and war crimes (General Electric and United Technologies), and to all who sent letters in support of the bill to senators these last couple of weeks. We could not have accomplished the 16-4 win without the massive support we received from the UC community and beyond. *Now, we need your help one last time to get this bill fully passed. *

Palestine, 24 March 2010 – The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC) congratulates the student government of the University of Michigan-Dearborn – an institution with 8,600 enrolled students in metropolitan Detroit – for its efforts to secure the university’s divestment from companies that support the illegal Israeli occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.

Occupied Ramallah, 23 March 2010 --   A recent article criticizing PACBI‘s position on the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (WEDO) [1] is based on false premises, misunderstanding and/or misrepresentation of PACBI‘s boycott criteria, and a misconception of the recent history of civil resistance in Palestine. Since the article insinuates that PACBI‘s position on WEDO is inconsistent with its own principles, the record needs to be set straight.

Udi Aloni [Haaretz] 21 March 2010 - The terrifying specter of non-violent resistance to the occupation and the apartheid regime is hovering over the State of Israel, and all the state's dignitaries have been recruited to battle it.

Allie Bidwell [Daily Californian] 18 March 2010 - The ASUC Senate considered a bill Wednesday night urging the University of California to divest from companies who have supplied the state of Israel with materials used in alleged war crimes.
