The Palestinian Association for Sociology and Anthropology urges strict adherence to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel's (PACBI) statement. This calls for excluding Israel and its complicit academic institutions from the fifth International Sociological Association (ISA) forum in Morocco.
The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a founding member of the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), the largest coalition in Palestinian society leading the global BDS movement, urges scholars who support the inalienable rights of the Indigenous people of Palestine to pressure the International Sociological Association (ISA) to cancel the participation of academics who are effectively representing Israeli institutions complicit in Israel’s settler-colonial and apartheid regime at the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology. This event is scheduled to take place at Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco, from July 6–11, 2025. Such participation violates the BDS movement’s academic boycott guidelines and the anti-normalization policies applicable to the Arab region.
As active members of the International Sociological Association and representatives of numerous Palestinian sociologists and anthropologists, we urge our colleagues in the ISA to support the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) by requesting the removal of participating academics from Israeli institutions that are involved. Given the World Association's statements do not address our request, we are urging a boycott of the conference.
