The South African Christian community through the South African Council of Churches (SACC), South African Conference of Bishops of the Catholic Churches (SACBC) and other several ecumenical agencies join the other parts of the Church in the world to remember the Israeli/Palestinian people in their celebration of the 8th International Israeli Apartheid Week starting from the 5 -11 March.

Johannesburg’s international airport was put on red alert after its National Key Point status was activated this morning due to the expected arrival of a delegation from Israel.
This afternoon at a joint press conference held at the student center of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, national representatives of the South African Union of Students (SAUS), the South African Student Congress (SASCO) and the Young Communist League (YCL) slammed the pending trip of “Israeli Apartheid agents“ to South Africa.
The Israeli mission to South African campuses is expected to arrive on the 11th of August 2011.

This afternoon, in a bold ruling defending the right to freedom of expression and
political speech, the South African media watchdog, the Advertising
Standards Authority (ASA), unequivocally dismissed all complaints relating
to a radio advert on 5fm that called for the boycott of Israel and compared
Israel to Apartheid South Africa.
