50 Actions in 20 Countries for Second #BoycottPuma Global Day of Action

Supporters of Palestinian human rights and sports fans in 20 countries called on Puma to end support for Israel's military occupation.

The Second Global #BoycottPuma Day of Action saw more than 50 actions in 20 countries across the world. Protests were held at Puma shops and offices and at matches of Puma-sponsored teams. Sports clubs stood in solidarity with the call to boycott Puma by more than 200 Palestinian sports teams.

Puma sponsors the Israel Football Association, which includes teams in illegal Israeli settlements on stolen Palestinian land. Israeli settlements are part of Israel's infrastructure of occupation and apartheid that also limits Palestinians ability to practice sports.

Palestinian Women's National Football Team player Aya Khatab called on all those who value freedom and justice to join the Puma boycott. "It is up to all of us to hold Puma to account for failing to uphold the principles of sport and fair play."

The second day of action built on the first last June. Once again, #BoycottPuma was the most tweeted Puma-associated hashtag and the number of impressions doubled from 8 million to 16 million.

Those who had already purchased Puma gear before learning of Puma’s support for Israel’s brutal military occupation, “rebranded” Puma shoes, clothing and bags by writing “Boycott” over the logo.
