The Israeli chamber of commerce in Vienna (Austria) have got the permission, for the opening of the «Tel Aviv Beach »  from the Mayor of Vienna (Häupl, socialist)  on the Viennese Donaukanal (right bank) to honor the 100 years of Tel Aviv this year. On the 10th of May the beach has been opened to the public.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has again accepted funding from the Israeli Embassy, while people in Gaza are still living in the rubble of their homes, and Gaza victims of Israel’s white phosphorous attacks are still in critical care.

In 2006, a public outcry forced the EIFF to return Israel’s tainted money.  On that occasion the EIFF stated publicly that its action was due to popular outrage at the massacres Israel had recently committed in Lebanon:

The five Scottish PSC members who were arrested when they disrupted the performance of the Israeli-state-sponsored Jerusalem Quartet at last August’s Edinburgh Festival will be at Edinburgh Sheriff Court (Chambers St) on Friday from 9.30am.

In the aftermath of the Gaza massacres, in what appears to have been a demonstration of solidarity with Israel, the original charge of Breach of the Peace was swapped for one of “racially aggravated conduct”.
