Email Siemens now and tell it to #StopFuelingIsraeliApartheid and the climate crisis

#COP27 may have ended, but the climate crisis rages on. Siemens, through its involvement with the fossil-fuel-based EuroAsia Interconnector, harms the planet and is deeply complicit in Israeli apartheid.

The EU-sponsored EuroAsia Interconnector will enable the trade of electricity produced from fossil gas between Israel and the EU via Cyprus. Furthermore, it will connect Europe’s electricity grid to Israel’s national electricity grid, which by design includes its illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), implicating the EU and companies working on this project in what the UN defines as a war crime.

Let’s boycott Siemens, the main contractor of the EuroAsia Interconnector project, to withdraw from it to avoid further normalising Israel’s regime of military occupation and apartheid.

Take action now by urging Siemens to #StopFuelingIsraeliApartheid.

#StopFuelingIsraeliApartheid

Dear Siemens,

I am writing to you regarding your major involvement in the EuroAsia Interconnector, a project that is deeply problematic in terms of international humanitarian law (IHL) and human rights standards.

At the beginning of September 2022, you received a letter from The Palestinian Human Rights Organization Council (PHROC) expressing serious concerns about your involvement in the EuroAsia Interconnector. As explained in detail in PHROC’s legal briefing, this Interconnector will connect Europe’s electricity grid to Israel’s national electricity grid, which includes - inseparably and by design - Israel’s illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

These settlements, a war crime under international law, involve the forcible transfer of indigenous Palestinian populations and the de facto annexation of occupied Palestinian land. Consequently, Israel’s settlements have been condemned consistently in resolutions of the UN Security Council and the European Union as a “flagrant violation” of international law.

All financing and works on the Israel-Cyprus segment of the Interconnector amount to recognition of these illegal settlements and contribute to their maintenance and expansion, implicating states and business enterprises in the associated grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention and war crimes currently investigated by the International Criminal Court.

With this present email, I ask you to:

* Answer the concerns expressed in PHROC’s letter.
* Refrain from all business involvement in the EuroAsia Interconnector that benefits and contributes to the maintenance and expansion of Israel’s illegal settlements in the OPT, including East Jerusalem.

I urge you to end your complicity in grave violations of international law and basic UN principles governing business and human rights. Until you withdraw from this illegal Interconnector project, I shall support and further promote the recently launched boycott campaign against Siemens.
