Amnesty International's Report on Apartheid in Palestine and Its Implications

With Saleh Hijazi

Organised by the Hashim Sani Centre for Palestine Studies, University of Malaya and BDS Malaysia

Sunday 19 March 2023

9:30 pm (Kuala Lumpur time) | 1:30 pm (London time) | 3:30 pm (Jerusalem time)

As the first anniversary approaches for Amnesty International’s report on #Israel, which concluded that Israel is committing the crime against humanity of #Apartheid and is conducting systemic persecution against Palestinians, now is as good a time as ever for the world to be reminded of the content of the report and its various implications, amongst others, on international law, on the duties and obligations of the international community to uphold it, on the struggle for #Palestinian self-determination and statehood and the global campaign to stop the ongoing violations of the human rights of Palestinians.

About the speaker: Saleh Hijazi is the Africa Campaigner at the National Committee of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) the Palestinian-led global nonviolent movement working to end Israel's settler-colonialism, military occupation and apartheid against the Palestinian people. As Africa Campaigner, Saleh sits on the Steering Committee of the Pan-African Palestine Solidarity Network. Prior to joining the BDS, Saleh held the position of Deputy Regional Director for MENA at Amnesty International, leading the team in producing the organization's report “Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime Against Humanity”. Previously, Saleh worked with Human Rights Watch and at the Al-Quds University Human Rights Clinic in Palestine. He is a member of Al-Shabaka – The Palestinian Policy Network. Saleh is a Palestinian, born and raised in Jerusalem and holds a BA in liberal arts from Lawrence University in the US, MA in human rights from the University of Essex in the UK, and a graduate diploma in social studies from the University of Bahia in Brazil.
