I WAS surprised to read a letter to the editor of The Australian claiming that I regard the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement's tactics targeting Israel as "pure anti-Semitism, aimed at the destruction of Israel" and that I said BDS efforts are "inimical to the interests of and lacking any genuine support from the Palestinian people" (Letters, 14/12).

The Palestinian cause is not a charity. The international community, however, has often failed to grasp the nature of the struggle for justice, preferring to channel funds to Palestinian "development" projects to compensate for the lack of will to put serious pressure on Israel. That mentality has been challenged by two recent reports that suggest that lip service to justice for Palestinians could be transformed into critical action.

Stock market analysis website Seeking Alpha published an article last week blaming the recent decline in the stock price of SodaStream (SODA) on the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaigns targeting the carbonation equipment manufacturer, which maintains facilities in West Bank settlements, considered illegal under international law.
